VOZ

VOZ is the community partner Capstone students will work with in Organizing and Defending Immigrant Workers. VOZ is a workers rights education project founded in June of 2000. The mission of VOZ is to empower immigrant workers, particularly day laborers, to gain control over their working conditions and to exercise their collective power to address the issues they face. VOZ is a worker-led organization whose membership organizes to secure and promote their rights through organizing, leadership development, and community education.

Through a Community Needs Assessment, students will identify key problems of this community. VOZ has already identified the need for a public forum at PSU to increase awareness in the conditions faced by immigrant workers. Students will organize a public forum late in the term in order to provide such a forum for VOZ and other immigrant worker support organizations. Students will work with VOZ to plan, organize, and implement a project related to empowering immigrant workers. VOZ is a worker-led organization whose membership organizes to secure and promote immigrant rights through organizing, leadership development, and community education.
