Rob Bremmer, Senior Instructor, holds an MA in English from Portland State University and is the published author of the novel Awakening in Midair. In his earlier career Rob developed corporate training and learning materials which led to extensive training development, leadership and national publication in the field of aviation. From 1999 to 2004 Rob built the Multimedia and Web Design program at the Art Institute of Portland, where he hired and trained teaching staff and developed integrated curriculum used in the regionally accredited undergraduate degree program. At Portland State University, Rob began teaching traditional in-class capstones 1999, and in 2007 Rob accepted the opportunity to develop an online capstone class at Portland State, which he has continuously evolved from the early days making videos for community partners to the current stages which includes the development of blogs, websites and online digital materials in support of community partner issues and community needs. In 2012 Rob was appointed by Portland Mayor Sam Adams to the Community Advisory Task Force on Police Training, where in support of the Dept. of Justice requirements to develop new officer training methods, he served 2 years in committee work to improve the training standards used in community based policing. Rob is a strong supporter of the value and untapped possibilities to advance education through the use of online methods, and at Portland State has developed multiple online tools to increase the quality of group communications in the online environment. In 2018 Rob was awarded a faculty development grant, using it to develop a community online group communication platform supported by Portland State technology, to be used by non-profit community groups. Rob has served as Personnel Committee Chair for the University Studies program and on faculty review committees. In teaching Rob focuses on the intersect areas of economic and environmental sustainability and its overlap with social justice disparities. Rob volunteers as a coach and mentor for high school students and is a 5 year coach and trainer for a local high school Dragon Boat team, competing annually in Portland Oregon.
