Empowering Portland's EcoDistricts with GIS and Asset Mapping  Asset mapping methods combined with geographic information systems (GIS) technology have proven to be an effective way to help citizens and organizations identify, analyze, describe, and mobilize around assets and issues of concern to them.

The Community Geography Project of the Institute of Portland Metropolitan Studies trains community groups and middle and high school students in GIS technology to enable them to ask new questions and better strategize and promote their agendas.

    Empowering Portland's EcoDistricts with GIS and Asset Mapping

    Spring 2015

    Partner:  Institute for Sustainable Solutions, Portland's EcoDistricts

    Project: The goal of the spring and summer Empowering Communities with GIS and Asset Mapping Senior Capstone courses is to support Portland's EcoDistricts sustainability efforts.  Students will engage with one of Portland's EcoDistricts to explore an issue of particular importance to the district. Students will collect data in the field, analyze them using GIS and other tools, and provide the partners with findings and recommendations.
