Course Description: 

This capstone meets on Thursdays and Fridays from 2-450 at PSU for the first week of the class.  Beginning the third week, students will meet  at Vestal Sun School on Thursdays and PSU on Fridays. Thursday class sessions will take place from 2-4pm at Vestal School for Social Justice 161 NE 82nd Ave, Portland, OR 97220.  Students will need to be at the community partner site on Thursdays by 2pm* (Please note: The Arleta sessions will end by 2pm on Wednesdays in order to provide adequate time to get back to campus by 4:50pm.)  The community partner site is accessible from the max stop on 82nd and the 19 and 20 bus lines.

* covid  alternate plans:  we do not yet know if schools will return to in person instruction by spring 2021 if instruction is still remote- we will then be teaching a virtual/ remote after school club coordinated by your instructor and taught by PSU students.

This capstone facilitates a creative reuse afterschool art program at Vestal Elementary SUN program.  Assignments and activities will include:  field trips to SCRAP, Helen  Gordon,The Childrens Museum, and the  PSU Reuse Center; reading assignments about reuse,  environmental education, learning centers and teaching;  facilitating after school art activities at Vestal Elementary School;  and a variety of creative assignments linked to course themes.
