Course Description: 

This capstone meets on Wednesdays and Fridays from 4-6:50 at PSU for the first week of the class.  Beginning the third week, students will meet  at Arleta on Wednesday and PSU on Fridays.  Wednesday class sessions will take place from 4:00-6:00pm at Arleta Elementary 5109 SE 66th Ave.  Students will need to be at the community partner site on Wednesdays by 4pm* (Please note: The Arleta sessions will end by 6pm on Wednesdays in order to provide adequate time to get back to campus by 6:50pm.)  The community partner site is accessible from the 17 and 9 bus lines which pickup on campus. You can also take the #14 bus from downtown.

This capstone facilitates a creative reuse afterschool art program at Arleta Elementary.  Assignments and activities will include:  field trips to SCRAP, Helen  Gordon,The Childrens Museum, and the  PSU Reuse Center; reading assignments about reuse,  environmental education, learning centers and teaching;  facilitating after school art activities at Arleta Elementary School;  and a variety of creative assignments linked to course themes.

In addition to working with our community partner, capstone students make their own final art projects with reuse material. In 2014 we had an art show of final capstone student art projects at SCRAP.   To view past student final projects see the link below:
