Course Description:

Violence Prevention

This course will provide students with the opportunity to explore the primary prevention of interpersonal violence and other forms of systemic harm. Essential to the praxis of the course is a social justice framework that scrutinizes the impact of socialization on the creation of judgments and prejudices that lead to inequities in experiences of violence. Success in this work requires innovative, integrated approaches that leverage partnerships to drive structural, societal,  and institutional change.  We will partner with an organization in the community to provide the building process of strategic planning and prevention. Students in this class will learn how to conduct and provide Collaborative Visualizations to our community partner.  A Collaborative Visualization is a qualitative approach used to elicit information and perspectives about insights, attitudes, expertise, and experiences from a diverse range of participants simultaneously.   The partnership will end with proposed actionable ways for our community partner to develop violence prevention strategies.
