Urban and small-scale agriculture captured Denissia’s imagination at a very young age, leading to a lifelong relationship with horticulture, small-scale farming/animal husbandry and permaculture. Denissia’s research and educational pursuits are focused on the impact of learning gardens on food security and access to locally-grown foods. Denissia manages Common Sense Gardens, a permaculture-focused garden-design service in Portland, sits on the board of the Lettuce Grow Garden Foundation, and teaches about Learning Gardens and Community Engagement at Portland State University.
